Lottery process for admissions
Lottery of study places as extra round of admissionsUsed by:
Description:
There are two types of lottery procedures for the allocation of study places: A) On the one hand, the lottery decides in the case of applications with equal rankings. B) On the other hand, after the end of the main procedure and the move-up procedure, there is sometimes a downstream lottery procedure for admission-restricted degree programmes in order to allocate study places that are still unoccupied.
An automatic lottery function can be used to decide between applications of equal rank.
A downstream lottery procedure for the previously unfilled study places in the admission process can be carried out in three different ways:
1) A draw can be made on the basis of a waiting list.
2) A draw can be made from the entire pool of applicants. In this case also
applications that have received a rejection letter or have not been considered so far can still take place.
3) A separate registration can be set up for the lottery procedure. This may be restricted to persons who have already
applied but couldn't receive an offer yet, ot be open for a general registration also for new applicants.
In all cases, the "Lot" function can be used to automatically draw lots between the selected applicants. All entries in the list will then be assigned the status "admitted" or "rejected" according to the number of available study places. The applicants will receive a notification of the change in status.
