Description:

Regulations in the Maternity Protection Act are intended to protect pregnant and nursing students as well as employees and to counteract any disadvantages. Maternity protection must be granted in principle and without the need for an application.

Students and employees can report a pregnancy online. All required data can be requested in the corresponding form. After such a notification and upload of the maternity passport, appropriate protection periods are calculated. This must be reported to state-specific supervisory bodies together with a risk assessment.

The risk assessment by the university records whether there are any stresses that pose a risk to health or whether special protective measures are required. If necessary, compensation for disadvantages must be made. The risk assessment is a basic employer obligation and must be carried out properly and competently by the university.

Pregnant and breastfeeding students within statutory maternity protection periods also have the right not to take examinations. These can still be taken by means of an informal waiver. In addition, extensive compensation for disadvantages can take effect in order to minimize possible delays in the studies.
